Market rules & safety

Last updated: October 2026

The Market is where the community rents rooms, sells things and helps each other out. Latinhood isn't part of any deal: we don't take payments, hold deposits or check items or rooms. These rules and tips help you trade safely.

How the Market works

Every listing is reviewed before it appears, and taken down if it breaks the rules.
Contact details are only shown to people signed in with a free account, to keep them away from bots and scrapers.
Some listings are shared from public Latin community groups on Facebook and WhatsApp. Those link to the original post and to the poster's profile there, and the poster is the person you deal with, not Latinhood.
Listings expire after a while. The poster can renew or mark them as sold or rented.

Spot a scam

Someone asks for a deposit, bond or “holding fee” before you've seen the room or item in person.
The price is far below everything else around it.
They're “overseas” or “away” and will send the keys after you pay.
They push you to decide fast or to keep talking off the platform only by email.
They ask for gift cards, crypto, money transfer services or your bank login, passport or visa details.
They send a payment link or a “Latinhood payment” message. Latinhood never asks for or takes payments.

Paying safely

Pay only after you've seen the room or item, ideally in person and at handover.
Prefer methods that leave a record (bank transfer to a named Australian account, PayID showing the person's name) and keep receipts and chats.
For a room, ask for a written agreement and a receipt for any bond. In Victoria, bonds for rentals should be lodged with the RTBA; Consumer Affairs Victoria explains your rights as a renter or sharer.
Never send money to someone you haven't met for a place you haven't seen.

Meeting up

Meet in a public, busy place in daylight, or bring a friend to view a room.
Tell someone where you're going and who you're meeting.
Check the item works before you pay. For vehicles, run a PPSR check to make sure there's no money owing on it.
Trust your instincts. If something feels off, walk away.

Market rules

You can't post:

anything illegal, stolen, counterfeit, or that needs a licence you don't have (weapons, drugs, alcohol or tobacco sales, prescription medicines);
rooms or jobs that discriminate, or jobs paying below the legal minimum or asking workers to pay to get hired;
visa sponsorship for sale, fake documents, or money-making schemes;
the same listing over and over, or listings that are really ads for a business (list the business instead);
someone else's photos or personal details without their permission.

If something goes wrong

Tap “Report listing” on the post. Our team reviews every report and removes listings that break the rules. The poster isn't told who reported it.
If you've lost money, contact your bank straight away, then report it to ReportCyber or the police and to Scamwatch.
In an emergency, call 000.
