If you run a business that works with Latin America, or wants to reach Latin Americans in Australia, sponsoring an event of the Australia-Latin America Business Council (ALABC) is one way to get in front of that crowd. Here is what the council publishes about sponsorship and how to approach it.
Who ALABC is
ALABC describes itself as an independent not-for-profit. Its website lists a members directory, a Soft Landing Platform, internships and a calendar of events across the country. In 2024 the council marked its 35th anniversary with its Melbourne dinner and awards.
What kind of events it runs
The photo gallery on the ALABC site gives a good idea of the mix:
- annual dinners in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth, including the Melbourne Annual Dinner and Business Excellence Awards 2025
- the Latin American Mining Dinner held around the IMARC mining conference, plus a LatAm Lounge listed for IMARC 2026
- boardroom luncheons with ambassadors, for example the Ambassador of Mexico in March 2024, and earlier ones with the ambassadors of Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Central America
- Canberra Networking Days in 2022 and 2023, and the launch of the Parliamentary Friends of Latin America
- webinars, with recordings kept on a past events page
Many of these events are business-focused, with a strong presence of mining, trade and diplomacy. Keep that in mind when you decide if your brand fits.
Why sponsorship matters to ALABC
On its sponsorship page ALABC explains that its revenue has traditionally depended heavily on physical events, and that events usually earn money from registrations and sponsorship. It offers sponsors brand visibility at its dinners, luncheons, conferences, workshops and webinars.
ALABC does not publish fixed prices. The page asks you to get in touch for rates and availability, and all sponsorship enquiries go to [email protected].
How to approach it
- Look at the calendar first. Check the upcoming events page and the gallery so you know which city and format suits you. A Perth mining dinner and a Melbourne awards night attract different people.
- Email the secretariat. Say who you are, which event interests you and what you want from it, for example meeting exporters, or showing your brand to a specific industry.
- Ask what is included. Since rates are not public, ask what visibility you get for each option and when they need your logo or materials.
- Use it on your own channels. Tell your customers and followers that you are supporting the event, and why.
- Go to the event. Sponsoring is worth more if someone from your team is in the room to talk with people.
If you also want to know about membership, ALABC lists member benefits and a registration page on the same site.
Reaching the wider Latin community
ALABC events speak mostly to business, trade and government. If your goal is to reach Latin American families, students and workers in Australia, also look at community events. On Latinhood events you can see salsa nights, festivals and concerts around the country, and the Latinhood directory lists Latin businesses by city.
