- Social
- A night of free dancing, no class. You ask people to dance, one song at a time.
- Rueda
- Rueda de casino: couples dance in a circle and swap partners on the caller's shout. Cuban style, and great fun at socials.
- Figura
- A move or combination of turns. Socials are for the ones you already know.
- Básico
- The basic step everything else is built on: six steps over eight beats.
- On1 / On2
- Which beat you break forward on: on 1 (LA style) or on 2 (New York style). Classes say which one they teach.
- Casino
- Cuban salsa: danced in a circular motion rather than on a line, with a playful, social feel.
